Confirmation

Confirmation will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 8, 20112 with Bishop Lennon presiding.

All candidates are to attend Preparatory Sessions which are held in the gym on designated Sunday mornings from 8:50a.m. - 9:55 a.m. (Unless otherwise noted). The complete schedule is provided.

Confirmation is a Sacrament of Initiation; the others being Baptism and Eucharist. In this Sacrament we are anointed with oil and imprinted with a spiritual seal. The sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace.

As a sacrament of Initiation, it binds us more completely to the church enriching us with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. While Baptism brings new life, Confirmation strengthens the initial commitment made and confers and seals the fullness of the Holy Spirit enabling us to better serve him, the Christian community and all people.

“Sealing” reminds us of an ancient time when people wore a seal around their necks to show they belonged to someone. Thus we are conformed to Christ, marked as belonging to him, and empowered to assume for ourselves the responsibility to live a Christian life.

Gifts of the Holy Spirit: The gifts we attribute to the Holy Spirit at Confirmation are: wisdom, understanding, knowledge, right judgment, courage, reverence, wonder and awe in the presence of the Lord.
